Myocardial Perfusion Stress Test
(Nuclear Medicine, Cardiolite)
In this procedure, a regular treadmill exercise test
is combined with pictures obtained by using a small amount of radioisotope
called Cardiolite and a special camera. This sophisticated stress
test can provide your doctor with information about your heart’s
function and blood supply. Cardiolite is not a
drug; therefore, patients will experience no side effects from
its administration.
Some patients, for one reason or another, are
unable
to perform the exercise portion of the test. In these instances,
the physician may
choose to use a drug to stress the heart. Side effects of the
drug will be explained more fully at appointment time.
The entire procedure should be completed in 3-4 hours with a one
hour break.
